Painting

Image
Activity: The first thing that we learned about was Australia and the artist that was from there. We learned about Clifford Possum and the artist that he was. After we learned a little about those things, we got started with our project. We first had to cut the paper bag in half and make sure that it played flat. The next thing that we did was that we got to pick an animal cut out of a choice. I got to choose the kangaroo. After we chose our animal, we got to glue it onto our bag where every we wanted. Next, we got some paint and started our design. We used a q-tip to dot the paint onto our project. We go to pick whatever design we wanted, and this is what I chose. The reason that we dotted was because we were learning about Clifford and this was his method. After we finished painting, we completed a self assessment, and then cleaned up our workspace. This was a fun and kinda calming activity.  Extension Activity: An extension activity for this lesson can be a science lesson...

Crayons/Oil pastels- Chameleons scratch art

Image
Activity: For this activity, we got to make a chameleon with scratch art. The first thing that we did was we used oil pastels and colored a piece of paper. We used the colors of the rainbow to color. The next thing that we did was made a border around our paper with tape. We then used the black paint that they provided for us to completely cover our oil pastel coloring. We had to let our painting dry, so we then took another piece of paper and drew our chameleon. After we drew our chameleon and added texture, we had to flip the paper over and lightly shade the back of it. We then traced our chameleon onto a sample scratch art. We had the outline on the sample one, so we took our wood stick and made the outline noticeable. The last few things that we did was trace the chameleon onto our our scratch art that we created. We took the painting did the same thing that we did was the sample one. (Traced it on there, then used the wooden stick to make it more noticeable). The last thing that w...

Clay- Monster

Image
This is the lesson that Hilary and myself taught.  Activity: We first started out by telling students that we are going to make clay monsters. We inform students that they will need a warm or cool color, add and subtract something, and to name their monster. We also remind that that they want to leave the bottom not painted to let the water release from it. Next, we showed the students some examples of clay monsters. After that, we handed out the pre-assessment which had them name 3 warm color, 3 cool colors, and to sketch their monster. We then started to show the students how to make the monster and let them follow along. We shoed them how to wedge, pinch pot, and slab. After we did that explained to the students how to add and subtract from their monster. We showed them how to slip and score in order to add something to their monster. We then let them be the artist and design a monster however they wanted. While students were designing, we let them listen to a story calle...

African Masks

Image
Activity: At the beginning of the class period, we got to learn about African Masks. They had given us some background on African masks, which included things like what they were, why they were used, and the meaning behind them. After that, we got to complete a pre test that had us draw 4 lines of symmetry on some pictures. They we had to draw 2 geometrics shapes and then create a pattern with the 2 geometric shapes. After that, we goto to start to design our masks. They started by having us create our mask on the back of our pre-assessment. After we had a design planned out, we got to transfer it to the construction paper. When we created our mask, we had to have three different design. Mine were the eye lashes, hair, and the pattern of squiggly lines. We also had to have three different parts of the design that was 3-D. Mine were the mouth, nose, and placing it onto the cardboard. After we finished designing the mask on the construction paper, we got to glue it onto the cardboard. we...

Craft- Basket Weaving

Image
Activity: We started this activity off by learning about basketweaving. We learn about the different materials that can be used to make baskets and the different cultures that use baskets. With the different cultures, there are different reasons that they use baskets. After doing the learning, we got to be creative and make our one basket. We started this by doing a pre assessment of weaving by weaving a few pieces of paper together. After that, we go tot start with the basket by taking the cup and making dots not the top. We had to have an odd number of spaces on the top if the cup. (The spaces were the area between the dots). We then had to cut straight down from the dots. That created the tabs that we used to weave. After that, we go to go pick a color and had to get 2 of our wingspan of yarn. We then had to tape the beginning go the yarn inside the cup. Once that was done, we got to start weaving around the cup. We would weave until we got it to the height that we wanted. Whe...

Printmaking

Image
Activity: We started this lesson by learning about printmaking and some of the artists. We got to look at a powerpoint that had some facts about the artist and some of their artwork. After that, we got to start being an artist. The first thing that we did was make a design that had three different patterns. After we made that design on paper, we have to trace it onto a piece of Styrofoam. Once we have the lines on the styrofoam, we went over it with a pencil to make the indents on the paper deeper. We then took a piece of paper where we did our background. You had to make the background either 3 warms colors or 3 cool colors. In my design, I had a background of three cool colors. We then got to do our print making. We had to pick a color that we wanted to use for the ink. I chose the color blue. You would take the ink and then roll into onto our styrofoam. We would have to choose a corner of the styrofoam to always be in the center. After that, we would print the ink onto our pap...

Paper Project- Jackson Pollack

Image
Activity: In this activity, we started by learning about Jackson Pollack. We learned about him and his Drip painting. The first thing that they had us do was cut out the three geometric shapes. After we had them cut out, we had to trace the shapes on our construction paper. We were also able to title our artwork. "My Drip Collage" is what I titled my art work. We next were given a pan that had three different areas with shaving cream. For the first section of shaving cream, we were able to mix yellow and orange food coloring. After we mixed the food coloring, we dipped our first geometric shape into the shading cream. I dipped my circle in the first shaving cream. We had to lightly push your geometric shape into the cream. When then pulled out the shaving cream and took a card to scrap off the excess shaving cream. After we did that we, we were able to create these awesome designs. We did the same step for the last two shapes, both there were different colors. The second se...
