Printmaking
Activity: We started this lesson by learning about printmaking and some of the artists. We got to look at a powerpoint that had some facts about the artist and some of their artwork. After that, we got to start being an artist. The first thing that we did was make a design that had three different patterns. After we made that design on paper, we have to trace it onto a piece of Styrofoam. Once we have the lines on the styrofoam, we went over it with a pencil to make the indents on the paper deeper. We then took a piece of paper where we did our background. You had to make the background either 3 warms colors or 3 cool colors. In my design, I had a background of three cool colors. We then got to do our print making. We had to pick a color that we wanted to use for the ink. I chose the color blue. You would take the ink and then roll into onto our styrofoam. We would have to choose a corner of the styrofoam to always be in the center. After that, we would print the ink onto our paper. We would do that four times in order to create a symmetric pattern. It was a fun activity to use to learn about print making!
Extension Activity: An extension activity for this lesson could be Language arts integrated into it. I feel like the students could have fun doing some research on artist that did printmaking. I would have my students do some research and then write an essay about the artist that they chose to research. I would have my students write a paragraph or two on information that they learned. This will allow for them to learn more about printmaking and the artist. It will also allow for them to gain more insight on their writing skills.
