Crayons/Oil pastels- Chameleons scratch art

Activity: For this activity, we got to make a chameleon with scratch art. The first thing that we did was we used oil pastels and colored a piece of paper. We used the colors of the rainbow to color. The next thing that we did was made a border around our paper with tape. We then used the black paint that they provided for us to completely cover our oil pastel coloring. We had to let our painting dry, so we then took another piece of paper and drew our chameleon. After we drew our chameleon and added texture, we had to flip the paper over and lightly shade the back of it. We then traced our chameleon onto a sample scratch art. We had the outline on the sample one, so we took our wood stick and made the outline noticeable. The last few things that we did was trace the chameleon onto our our scratch art that we created. We took the painting did the same thing that we did was the sample one. (Traced it on there, then used the wooden stick to make it more noticeable). The last thing that we did was take the tape off and complete the self evaluation. This was such a fun activity and this is a great idea of something to do with students.

Extension Activity: One extension activity that I think you can do with students is have them research different different facts about chameleons. They would have to write a certain number of facts that they found while they were researching. Some ideas that I would give my students is where do they live, how big can they get, and what is the longest time a chameleon has lived? Students are able to gain more information from researching questions about this animal.
