Drawing- Wassily Kandinsky

Activity: For this activity, we started out by learning about Wassily Kandinsky. We did this by looking at some of his art work and a little about his  life. After that, we had a pre-assessment where we had to show if we knew what organic and geometric shapes were. We had to draw one of each and then create a pattern in them. After that, we got to take a piece if paper and add three geometric shapes onto it. After that was done, we added three organic shapes that had to overlap the geometric shapes. We then draw a line from one end of the paper to the next. I had made my line a squiggly line. We also had to create a pattern inside two of our shapes. After we had finished those steps, we got to paint. In order to paint, we had to listen to the Disney music that they had playing. When a song was on, we had to paint with the color that we thought would fit with the song. It was fun to be able to listen to a song and paint what we thought the mood was. Lastly, we signed our artwork.

Extension Activity: An extension activity for this lesson could be having an activity that integrate Language Arts into it. One way this could be done is by having students do a writing activity about Wassily Kandinsky and their own art design. The writing activity could include a paragraph of things that they learn about Wassily Kandinsky and then a paragraph about their art design. Ideas for the paragraph for art design is why did you chose those shapes, why did you chose the colors, and what your favorite part about the activity was.
