Hidden Safari

Image
Activity: In this lesson, we learned about animals that live in the safari and what a safari is. We also learned about making patterns with warm colors so that we could hide the cool color (light blue) design that we had created under it. We also made red classes so that you could see the animal that was created under the patterns. When you used the red glasses, it would block out the warm colors. I had designed an elephant. After we finished our design, we wrote three characteristics about our animal.   Extension Activity: An extension activity that we could use is in a social studies class. We could have a specific topic and students have to draw something from the topic. They then have to write three facts about it so that their classmates can try and state what the topic is. An example is the dirty thirties. A student could draw dust storms with a cool color to represent it and then cove...

Van Gogh Inspired Collages

Image
Activity: For this activity, we learn about the artist of Vincent Van Gogh. When we were learning about him, we learned about his famous painting of A Stary Night. We made our own art by starting by choosing our tissue paper and mod podging it on to the construction paper. We let that dry and then we uses oil pastel and crayon to make designs all over the tissue paper and construction paper. After we did that, we choose our landscape and cut it out of another piece of construction paper. I had then made a design on my landscape to make it look like buildings. We then glued our landscape onto the construction paper. Lastly, on a separate piece of paper we wrote three facts that we learned about Vincent Van Gogh.  Extension Activity: An extension activity for this could be teaching a geography lesson about different landscapes. We could learn about all of the different types of landscapes and then the students could pick their favorite and make their own Van Gogh inspired coll...

DOT Day Explorations

Image
Activity: For this activity, we got to explore the history of the dot. The first thing that we got to do was listen to the book The Dot by Peter Reynolds. We were then given as coffee filter to make our own dot. We were suppose to use at least three different types of medias. Some of these can include markers, oil pastels, sharpie, and crayons. After we had made our design with the medias, we would blend them when we mixed it with water colors. It was fun to see how the colors can really blend when using water colors.  Extension Activity: An extension activity for this project could be have students create their own dot based on a book that they are reading. Many teachers have students read books and they could choose a design that would represent their book. It could be a character or scene in the book. After students have created their dot, they will share what it is and then we will hang them up around the classroom.
